Course Overview
Border security is critical to safeguarding Ontario and Canada from illegal activities such as human smuggling and contraband transport. This awareness emphasizes the importance of vigilance, communication, and collaboration among law enforcement agencies, enhancing efforts to detect, deter, and disrupt criminal activities at and between border points.
At the end of this course, participants will have an awareness of general criminal activity indicators related to border security, enabling them to report observations to the Ontario Provincial Police.
When you have completed this course you will be able to:
- Identify physical and behavioural indicators of potential criminal activity during lawful encounters
- Recognize suspicious activities at ports, waterways, and land crossings between ports
- Recognize potential concealment methods for contraband in vehicles and drones
- Use reporting procedures for suspected criminal activity to the appropriate authorities
- Articulate the impacts of border security both nationally and provincially, identifying the role all law enforcement partners contribute to gathering information
- Describe safety considerations when encountering criminality
- Apply the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act as it relates to non-RCMP/CBSA officers
